Introducing Copilot: Governance, Data Protection and Permissions

Copilot shows every user exactly what they already have access to. This is precisely where rollouts fail: in SharePoint environments that have grown organically, that turns out to be a frightening amount. This course puts you in a position to prepare a Copilot rollout properly instead of fixing it afterwards.

The course is aimed at those responsible, not end users, and does not lead to a certification. Content-wise, it covers a good part of what AB-900 examines.

Course Content

Day 1 – Stocktaking and Oversharing

  • How Copilot accesses data: Microsoft Graph, the semantic index, permission boundaries
  • Why Copilot doesn’t create a security problem but makes an existing one visible
  • Finding oversharing sites: broken permission inheritance, company-wide groups, “everyone” links
  • Data risk assessment with Purview DSPM
  • Excluding sites from Copilot discovery
  • Planning sensitivity labels and enforcing them at provisioning

Day 2 – Guardrails and Operations

  • DLP policies for Copilot: excluding content from processing
  • Access control for business-critical sites
  • Retention and logging of Copilot interactions
  • eDiscovery and subject access requests: what you must be able to produce
  • Data residency for Switzerland: EU Data Boundary, Advanced Data Residency, local processing
  • The documented exception for third-party models
  • Licensing and requirements: qualifying base plan, Exchange Online, network
  • Planning the rollout: pilot group, training, success measurement

IT managers, Microsoft 365 administrators, information security and data protection officers, and project leads preparing a Copilot rollout.

Administration experience with Microsoft 365, in particular SharePoint Online and Microsoft Entra ID. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Purview is helpful but not required.

You can assess the maturity of your environment, systematically fix oversharing, set effective guardrails, and plan a Copilot rollout that is sound both technically and from a regulatory standpoint.

You receive a certificate of attendance from CT Academy AG. This course does not lead to a vendor certification — it is designed for immediate applicability in everyday work. If you are aiming for a certification, we are happy to advise you on the suitable official exams.
