Throughout the course, participants are guided through a series of increasingly challenging topics. Each topic consists of a lecture, a group discussion, extensive hands-on lab exercises and a lab debrief. This course is «competency-based» and designed to give participants core skills in Python, combining current, effective techniques with best practices. In a hands-on learning environment led by an experienced Python practitioner, participants learn to:

  • Create working Python scripts following best practices
  • Use Python data types appropriately
  • Read and write files containing text and binary data
  • Search and replace text using regular expressions
  • Get to know the standard library and its labour-saving modules
  • Use lesser-known but powerful Python data types
  • Create «real-world», professional Python applications
  • Work with dates, times and calendars
  • Know when to use collections such as lists, dictionaries and sets
  • Understand Pythonic features such as comprehensions and iterators
  • Write robust code with exception handling
