AZ-305 is the architecture course of the Azure certification line. You will learn how to derive a resilient Azure architecture from business requirements – and justify these decisions to the business department and management. The course covers identity and governance, data storage, business continuity and infrastructure. It prepares you for the AZ-305 exam, which leads to the «Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert» certification.

Designing identity, governance and monitoring

  • Designing logging and monitoring solutions, routing logs in a targeted way
  • Authentication and authorisation: Microsoft Entra ID, access to Azure and on-premises resources
  • Managing secrets, certificates and keys
  • Structure of management groups, subscriptions and resource groups, plus tagging strategy
  • Compliance management and identity governance

Designing data storage

  • Relational data: service selection, service and compute tier, scaling, data protection
  • Semi-structured and unstructured data: storage, weighing up functionality, performance and cost, durability
  • Data integration and data analytics

Designing business continuity

  • Backup and disaster recovery for Azure and hybrid workloads based on recovery objectives
  • Backup and recovery of compute, databases and unstructured data
  • High availability for compute as well as for relational and non-relational data

Designing infrastructure solutions

  • Compute: virtual machines, containers, serverless and batch processing
  • Application architecture: messaging, event-driven architecture, API integration, caching, configuration management
  • Automated deployment of applications
  • Migrations: Cloud Adoption Framework, assessing existing servers, data and applications, migration to IaaS and PaaS
  • Networking: connectivity to the internet and on-premises, performance, network security, load balancing and routing

Cloud architects, experienced Azure administrators, and infrastructure managers who are taking the step from operations to architecture.

Advanced knowledge of Azure administration, development and DevOps, as well as an understanding of governance and budgeting, is required – ideally the AZ-104 certification.

After the course you will be able to:

  • design solutions for logging, monitoring, authentication and governance
  • select and justify suitable storage services for relational, semi-structured and unstructured data
  • design backup, recovery and high-availability concepts based on defined recovery objectives
  • design compute, application, migration and network architectures for Azure
