German as a Foreign Language A1 – Intensive Week

Anyone working in German-speaking Switzerland cannot avoid German — in the course you learn Standard German while also being introduced to everyday Swiss German usage. In the German as a Foreign Language A1 intensive week, you spend five consecutive days working intensively on your language — in a small group, mostly speaking, and in the target language from the very first hour. The structure follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, so you always know where you stand and what comes next.

You understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences. You can introduce yourself and others, ask and answer questions about personal details, and communicate if the other person speaks slowly and clearly.

Getting Started with the Language

First Steps in the Office

Working professionals who need German as a Foreign Language in their everyday work and want to make noticeable progress in a short time. The intensive week is suitable for individuals as well as for teams aiming to reach a language level together. Maximum of eight participants per group.

No prior knowledge required. The course starts from scratch.

Not sure which level is right for you? We carry out a free placement test in advance — in writing and in a short conversation. This takes around 20 minutes and prevents the most common disappointment in language courses: the wrong level.

You understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences. You can introduce yourself and others, ask and answer questions about personal details, and communicate if the other person speaks slowly and clearly.

At the end of the week you receive a written assessment of the level you have reached according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, together with a recommendation for the next step.

We work immersively: the target language is spoken from the first hour, and new content is conveyed through images, sound and situations rather than translation lists. Grammar is not learned by rote but inferred from examples — the way you learned your native language.

Speaking accounts for more than 60 percent of course time. This is complemented by targeted pronunciation training, listening comprehension with authentic material instead of textbook recordings, and short daily writing exercises. You get access to the learning platform so you can continue building on what you have learned after the week.

We offer German as a Foreign Language at levels A1, A2, B1 and B2. The levels build on one another; each intensive week corresponds to one level. If you want to progress faster, you can book two weeks back to back — however, we recommend at least four weeks of everyday practice in between so that what you have learned can settle in.
