Course ID: #AZ900-1

AZ-900T00 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals – incl. Labs

Duration: 2 days Dates:

AZ-900T00 provides the fundamentals for getting started with the cloud and Microsoft Azure. Microsoft now runs the course under the name "Introduction to Cloud Infrastructure" and divides it into three parts: cloud concepts, Azure architecture and services, and management and governance. In addition to theory and demonstrations, you create your first resources in hands-on labs via the Azure portal and the command line. The course prepares you for the AZ-900 exam ("Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals" certification).

Describing Cloud Concepts

  • Defining cloud computing, the shared responsibility model, public, private and hybrid cloud with suitable use cases
  • Consumption-based model, comparing cloud pricing models, serverless computing
  • Benefits of cloud services: high availability and scalability, reliability and predictability, security and governance, manageability
  • Cloud service types IaaS, PaaS and SaaS and their typical use cases

Describing Azure Architecture and Services

  • Core components: Azure regions, region pairs and sovereign regions, availability zones, data centres; resources and resource groups, subscriptions, management groups and their hierarchy
  • Compute: comparing containers, virtual machines and functions; Azure Virtual Machines, Virtual Machine Scale Sets, availability sets and Azure Virtual Desktop; resources required for virtual machines; hosting options for applications
  • Networking: virtual networks, subnets, peering, Azure DNS, Azure VPN Gateway and ExpressRoute; public and private endpoints
  • Storage: Azure Storage services, access tiers, redundancy options, storage accounts and storage types; moving files with AzCopy, Azure Storage Explorer and Azure File Sync; migration with Azure Migrate and Azure Data Box
  • Identity, access and security: Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Entra Domain Services, single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication and passwordless sign-in, external identities, conditional access, role-based access control (Azure RBAC), Zero Trust, defence in depth, Microsoft Defender for Cloud

Describing Azure Management and Governance

  • Cost management: factors that influence cost, pricing calculator, cost management features in Azure, tags
  • Governance and compliance: Microsoft Purview, Azure Policy, resource locks
  • Managing and deploying resources: Azure portal, Azure Cloud Shell, Azure CLI and Azure PowerShell, Azure Arc, infrastructure as code, Azure Resource Manager and ARM templates

IT staff who are starting out with Microsoft Azure, want to get to know the offerings and gain initial hands-on experience. The course provides a foundation for further role-based courses and certifications such as Azure Administrator.

Basic knowledge of IT terms and concepts is required. Scripting knowledge is not required; resources are created mainly via the Azure portal and the command line.

After the course you will be able to:

  • explain cloud models, cloud service types and the shared responsibility model, and distinguish between them
  • describe the structure of Azure with regions, availability zones, subscriptions and management groups
  • select suitable Azure services for compute, networking and storage
  • classify identity, access and security features such as Microsoft Entra ID, conditional access and Azure RBAC
  • describe tools for cost management, governance and monitoring such as Azure Policy and Azure Monitor
