After completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • understand the design lifecycle of data centres and the phases involved
  • discuss the data centre requirements in great detail with vendors, suppliers and contractors, to ensure that these requirements are met
  • validate design plans, cost estimates and proposals submitted by vendors/contractors
  • understand redundancy levels for both design/construction and maintenance of the data centre
  • understand the various structural aspects such as ballistic protection, mitigation of seismic activity, fire resistance ratings and thermal stability
  • understand how a raised floor is installed to specification while avoiding misalignment, height differences and leaks
  • understand how to read an electrical single-line diagram in order to identify and avoid the most common design errors
  • choose the right UPS and parallel configuration, and know and avoid classic errors in parallel installation
  • understand how battery banks are calculated, and check proposed configurations to see whether they meet the requirements
  • understand what clearance must be maintained to avoid EMF issues for personal safety and equipment interference
  • understand the basic cooling configuration, CFM, delta-T and other important factors
  • understand contamination factors and limits
  • understand the options for fire suppression in detail, including calculating gas concentration and checking installations
  • understand how the energy efficiency of a data centre can be measured and improved

The primary target audience for this course is professionals from IT, facility management or data centre operations who work in and around the data centre and are responsible for achieving and improving high availability and manageability of the data centre.

Participants must hold a valid CDCP certificate in order to be able to register for the CDCS course.

The Certified Data Centre Specialist (CDCS) exam is included in the course.
